Portus History

The roots of Portus (formerly known as Alter Ego), can be traced back to December 1999, at the Pop School of the SKVR  (Stichting kunstzinnige vorming Rotterdam - Foundation for artistic development).

Ed and Paul were part of the original school band formation, to be joined in the following months by fellow students, Jo and Bert. From early 2000, onwards, the band decided to continue together and have extra rehearsals outside of school. Rita made her entrance in September 2001.

The first Portus gig took place on February 24th, 2001, at Total Music, in Schiedam. A good time was had by all!

In the Spring of 2002, the members decided to change the band name, from Alter Ego to Portus; no blood was spilled during this process :-)

At the end of 2002, Jeroen and Jan joined the band as replacement bass player and drummer. Many thanks to Jo and Bert, and good luck with whatever they decide to do.
On May 10th, 2003, in the city of Wolfburg, Portus  played  their first international gig!!!
With a repertoire consisting of own songs and covers, the sound of Portus can be loosely categorized in the pop/rock genre.
